Egyptian and Ethiopian ministerial delegations concluded their fifth round of meetings in Addis Ababa, and said they plan to stick to an agreement to form a joint committee and that Ethiopia won't let its ongoing dam project harm Egypt's share of Nile water.
Ethiopia's dam has been a source of concern for Cairo since May of last year over concerns the project will impact its share of Nile water. However, Ethiopian officials have insisted the dam will not harm Egypt's share.
Egypt's President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi met with Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn after the African Union summit in Malabo in June, where the two leaders agreed to form the joint committee for bilateral relations.
The meetings held in Addis Ababa over the past three days headed by Egypt's Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry and his counterpart Tedros Adhanom tackled several regional issues including the situation in Somalia, South Sudan, Libya, Burkina Faso as well as Palestine.
According to an Egyptian foreign ministry statement, the two countries agreed that the conflict in South Sudan should be resolved peacefully and highlighted the importance of resolving the Palestinian problem through a two state solution.
The two countries condemned terrorism and vowed to back each others' efforts in combatting it.
The two ministerial delegations also agreed to enhance cooperation in the fields of education, health and industry.
More than 100 businessmen have also held a summit parallel to the ministerial meetings which included the ministries of trade, education, industry and health.
