Diaspora celebrate SEPDM Anniversary, Ethiopian Flag Day

Addis Ababa, 23 October 2014 (WIC) - Ethiopians and foreigners of Ethiopian origin living in different countries have reportedly celebrated the 22nd anniversary of the Southern Ethiopia Peoples’ Democratic Movement (SEPDM) and the 7th National Flag Day.   

According to a press release issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ethiopians and foreigners of Ethiopian origin living in Doha, Frankfurt and Abu Dhabi celebrated the anniversary and the Flag Day.   

Acting Liaison Officer of the Ethiopian Consulate General, Girma Menegsha, said on the occasion that the contribution of SEPDM to growth, peace and development of the peoples of southern Ethiopia in particular and the country at large is immense.   

The history of SEPDM was presented to the audience and diaspora was urged to help the renaissance in Ethiopia attain its goals by standing alongside SEPDM.   

Similarly, those who reside in Doha and Abu Dhabi said the diaspora should show their respect to the national flag by accelerating the country’s development and building its image.   

Speaking during the occasion, Acting Liaison Officer with the Ethiopian Embassy in Doha, Shebiru Mamo said the effort of Ethiopians to extricate themselves from poverty and backwardness shows the respect they have for the flag.   

Ethiopia’s Ambassador to Abu Dhabi, Dr. Abdulkadir Rizku on his part called on the diaspora living in Abu Dhabi and the surroundings to buy GERD bond and actively participate in the country's development effort. (ENA)
